Tzedakah - Charity
Am Yisrael Chai
If you search for Jew Shoes or Jewish Shoes online, the most glaring photos that emerge are those from the indescribable horrific saga of the concentration camps of WWII. You will find photos from the Auschwitz – Birkenau camps, and Budapest’s Holocaust Memorial “Shoes on the Danube.” The photos are haunting. This time frame in Jewish history is unspeakable yet begs us not be silent. Jewish values are about choosing life, not death.
Each shoe represents a soul, an entire universe, that lost its representation in the world. 6 million Jewish lives were lost, as well as millions of other friends and neighbors. The world lost so many tzaddikim of that generation, as Isaiah the prophet said “all of your people are righteous.” (Isaiah 60:21) Throughout history, the storyline trying to extinguish the Jewish soul repeats…Pharoah, Laban, Esau, Haman (may their names be blotted out).
Incredible organizations, such as Yad Vashem, do so much to create the Tikkun for the inordinate loss of life of this time period. The survivors, the persevering generations of Jews and lineage that continues to bear fruit in our day and time are the testimony that “Jacob lives.” As a nation and a people, together, that correction is being made.
This inherent exuberance and honor for life is part of the motivation for our Jew Shoes line. We want to assume that our existence can add to the Tikkun for these souls, and we want to contribute to such an end. It is our commitment to make Yad Vashem one of the primary recipients of charitable contributions of proceeds from this business as well as our continued support for our local synagogue and Jewish community.
NEVER AGAIN!
